About Us

Anika Smith (MSW, LISW-S, LCSW-S)
Hey there! I’m Anika the founder and owner of Phoenix Soaring Counseling. Let’s skip the usual spiel about how much I care and what I know – that’s a given. I believe what truly sets me apart as a therapist is my commitment to being authentically present within our therapeutic journey. I get what it means to have to evolve and navigate life’s challenges because I’ve been there.
In my teenage years, I faced homelessness, sleeping under bridges and doing whatever it took to survive. Always wondering if there would be a good life for me. Fortunately, there were remarkable individuals who stood by me – foster care, families, and mentors who showed me that life could be different. I’ve chosen this profession to pay forward the incredible support I received.
I truly do understand what it is to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, but I also know the transformative power of having someone walk beside you. You don’t have to tread this path alone. Just as others walked with me when I needed it, I’m here to walk with you.
Hi I’m Mary. I’m the client care coordinator. Personally, I think that’s a fancy way to say that I’ll to be the first at Phoenix Soaring Counseling to care about you and your journey. As someone who’s had a ‘past’, I get how frustrating and scary it can be to try and find a therapist that’s a good fit. I also understand being met with someone who is cold to tell your personal information to at an intake meeting, all the while hoping not everyone wears this same cool armor.
It’s my desire to be personable and caring and allow you to get just a small glimpse of the community you’ll be walking into.
I look forward to seeing your name come up on my calendar, to connecting you with a therapist who will meet you where you are, and I’ll especially look forward to seeing you soar.
Hi, I’m Jake! I’m a graduate student at the University of the Cumberlands studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a counseling intern at Phoenix Soaring Counseling. I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults facing challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, and neurodevelopmental differences.

I believe the best growth happens when you feel heard, understood, and in the driver’s seat of your journey. My role is to walk with you in a safe, supportive space, helping you discover your strengths, explore solutions, and try strategies that fit your goals and what matters most to you. I draw on a variety of approaches, including behavior therapy and adaptive supports, always keeping your needs at the center. I’m here to support you, celebrate progress, and help you grow at your own pace – one step at a time.
